Wedding FAQs

What areas do you cover?
My Marriage Celebrant services can be provided in Brisbane City (all venues), New Farm, Newstead, South Brisbane, Kangaroo Point, Teneriffe, Toowong, Mt Coot-tha, Indooroopilly, St Lucia, Yerongpilly, Oxley, Springfield Lakes, Redland Bay, Sandgate & Cleveland. We don’t have any idea what our ceremony should include!
I provide a basic template, that includes the legally required wording for your ceremony and suggestions for vows, readings and rituals.
We would like to remember deceased family members (or friends), how can we do that?
There are a number of ways we can so, by using a special reading, a candle lighting ritual or balloon release.
Bride doesn't want anyone to escort her or make a presentation, is this ok?
That is not a problem as it is not a legally required part of the ceremony.
We would like to write our own vows, can we do so?
Absolutely, I encourage you to do that. Keep them concise, relevant and not too long, remember speeches are for the reception!
We want to involve some special people in the ceremony other than those in the official party, how can we do that?
There are a number of ways. They could do a reading or sing or play musical instruments. You could include a ritual such as a Sand Ceremony which is a lovely way to include members of a ‘blended’ family. Other ideas include having family members light candles, present the rings or choose them as your official witnesses
Who can we choose as our witnesses?
The law requires only that the two people be 18 years or older. They can be family members or friends, parents or siblings.
Do I have to complete a ‘change of name’ application?
No, we can submit an application for the Certified copy of your Marriage Certificate when I lodge your other legal documents (you receive a Presentation Certificate on the day however it is not recognized legally). You will receive that within a month of your marriage and that is the only legal document you will need to produce to prove ‘change of name’.
How long does the marriage ceremony take?
That depends on what you include. Readings and Rituals add a little time, but the average wedding ceremony takes 20 to 25 minutes.
We want the marriage ceremony to be a surprise, is that possible?
That is easy, we work out a time table including where and how you want the ceremony to be held and I will announce the event and conduct the ceremony.
